At least one gendarme private was killed in an attack on a military helicopter in southeastern Sirnak province Monday, the Turkish military said, Anadolu Agency reported.
According to the Turkish General Staff's statement on its official website, the attack took place in the province's Beytussebap district.
The statement said that the slain private had only recently ended his military service.
"He was severely wounded in the attack carried out by PKK [outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party] terrorists on the military chopper at 7.05 a.m. [0400 GMT]; he died at 9.45 a.m. [0645 GMT] despite efforts to save his life at a military hospital in Sirnak," the statement added.
The Turkish General Staff also offered its condolence to the victim's family in the statement.
