Russian president’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov says the Kremlin has urged to wait for ascertaining the reasons behind the crash of the Su-24 in Syria.

14:34 (GMT+4) Russian president's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov says the Kremlin has urged to wait for ascertaining the reasons behind the crash of the Su-24 in Syria.

"So far we haven't heard anything from the defense ministry about the cause of the crash of our combat aircraft," RIA Novosti has quoted him as saying.

"We know for certain that the aircraft was in the airspace of Syria, over the territory of Syria," he added.

Peskov noted that a statement issued by Russia's Defence Ministry said the plane was "presumably shot down".

He said the incident involving the Su-24 is very serious, and it is early to give assessments and make assumptions before establishing the causes.

13:48 (GMT+4) NATO is to make a statement soon on the incident involving Russian warplane in Syria, RIA Novosti has reported citing the Alliance.

13:23 (GMT+4) The Russian warplane was downed by the Turkish Air Force after over 10 warnings urging the aircraft to leave Turkey's airspace, the country's General Staff said.

13:15 (GMT+4) Russia's Defense Ministry has said the Su-24, which crashed in Syria, was flying over that country only.

13:03 (GMT+4) A Russian Su-24 warplane crashed in Syria near the border with Turkey, presumably as a result of shooting from ground, Russia's RIA Novosti has reported citing Russian Defense Ministry.

12:31 (GMT+4) Turkish media report that a Syrian fighter jet was shot down by Turkey's Air Force.

Reportedly, the aircraft violated Turkish air space.

12:17 (GMT+4) According to reports the warplane was shot down by the Syrian opposition in the country's north.

The plane's crew managed to bale out.

The aircraft fell on a residential area, densely populated by Syrian Turkomans.

11:46 (GMT+4) A warplane crashed in the territory of Syria Nov. 24 near the border with Turkey, the Turkish news channel TRT Haber reported.

It is currently unknown which country owned the aircraft.
