Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 1

Trend:

US President Barack Obama urged Turkey and Russia to set aside tensions over the downing of a Russian warplane and focus on the common priority of defeating the terrorist group IS (aka ISIS, ISIL or Daesh), the New York Times reported.

Obama's remarks came Dec. 1 following a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

"We all have a common enemy. That is ISIL. I want to make sure that we focus on that threat," said Obama.

Obama's meeting with Erdogan was held as part of the UN climate change summit in Paris.

The tension between Moscow and Ankara emerged after the Turkish Air Force downed a Russian Su-24 bomber in Turkey's airspace.
