Turkey not to deploy new troops to Iraq

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 8

By Rufiz Hafizoglu - Trend:

Ankara intends to neither deploy its new military units to Iraq nor withdraw the existing ones, the Turkish foreign ministry said Dec.8.

Turkish Armed Forces have a tank battalion stationed in the Iraqi province of Nineveh, tasked to prepare Kurdish Peshmerga military forces to fight the IS terrorist organization (also known as ISIS, ISIL or Daesh).

The Iraqi authorities had previously been informed that the Turkish battalion will enter the province. This is while previously the Iraqi authorities accused Turkey of military invasion and demanded the Turkish troops to leave the country.

In addition, a number of Iraqi MPs demanded from the authorities to launch a military operation against the Turkish troops.
