The shootout with members of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorist group in Turkey's Diyarbakir province has left 8 Turkish servicemen killed and 24 more injured, Sabah newspaper reported March 25.

A large-scale operation against the PKK started in the province following the shootout.

The PKK has in recent months become active in the south-east of Turkey, and its attacks on military units and police stations have increased.

Over 200 Turkish servicemen were killed in clashes with the PKK in 2015.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for over 25 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by the UN and the European Union.
