A curfew has been declared as part of measures to fight against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Silvan district of the eastern Turkish province of Diyarbekir, the provincial mayor’s office said in a message Nov. 23.

Reportedly, searches will also be carried out at a number of addresses in the district.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for more than 30 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.

The UN and the European Union list the PKK as a terrorist organization.
