Turkey to issue grant to Palestine for economic development

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 14

By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

Turkey will provide Palestine with a $10 million grant for economic development, reads a mesage posted on the website of the Turkish "Official Gazette" (Resmi Gazete).

The message says that the agreement on the grant was signed between Palestine and Turkey on Sept. 17, 2017.

Reportedly, part of the funds from the grant provided by Turkey will be spent on reconstruction of infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.

On Dec.13, Istanbul hosted an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the issue of Jerusalem.

East Jerusalem has been declared the capital of Palestine in a resolution adopted following the emergency summit.

The OIC also urged all countries to condemn the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Previously, US President Donald Trump proclaimed that the US recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Israel proclaimed Jerusalem its capital after the end of the War of Independence in 1949. In 1967, after the Six Days War, it seized East Jerusalem and united it with the West Jerusalem, but the UN did not recognize this. Embassies of countries that have diplomatic relations with Israel are located mainly in Tel Aviv, Herzliya and Ramat Gan.
