Istanbul police detain over 10 PKK terrorists

As part of a special operation conducted against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist group, 14 PKK militants were detained in Istanbul, Trend reports with reference to the Turkish media Feb. 13.

The terrorists planned a series of provocations in connection with the 21-year anniversary of the detention of PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan.

All detainees are citizens of Turkey.

On Feb. 15, 1998, Turkish security services detained Ocalan in Kenya.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has lasted more than 25 years, claiming more than 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
