A Turkish serviceman was killed as a result of an attack by militants of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on a military convoy in the Mardin province in eastern Turkey, Trend reports on Sept. 4 referring to the Turkish media.
Two servicemen were injured in the attack.
After the incident, Turkish Armed Forces launched a local operation against the PKK.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has been lasting around 40 years, claiming more than 40,000 lives. The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by the UN and the EU.
