Turkey sees five-month decline in cargo transportation via Esenboga Airport

Some 21,391 tons of cargo were transported through Turkey’s Esenboga Airport from January through May 2020, which is 53 percent less compared to the same period of last year, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend on July 1.

According to the ministry, over the reporting period, 12,520 tons of cargo were transported via domestic flights, which is 61 percent less compared to the same period in 2019.

In the first five months of this year, 8,871 tons of cargo were transported through the Esenboga Airport via international flights, which is 33 percent less compared to the same period in 2019, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, slightly over 2.5 million passengers were served in the Esenboga Airport, which is 56 percent less compared to the same period of last year. Slightly over 2.1 million of them were served via domestic, and 412,777 – via international flights, which is 56 percent less (both for domestic and international ones) than in the same period of 2019.

The ministry also noted that from January through May, 21,113 flights were made through the Esenboga Airport, which is 50 percent less than in the same period of last year.

Over the reporting period, 17,069 domestic flights (down 51 percent) and 4,044 international flights (decrease by 47 percent) were carried out through the Esenboga Airport.

The number of flights decreased by 46.5 percent and made up 304,121 in Turkey from January through May 2020.

Some 33.7 million passengers were served at all Turkish airports from January through May 2020. Furthermore, 304,121 flights were carried out at all airports of the country and 922,610 tons of cargo were transported during the reporting period.
