Volume of transportation operations via airport in Izmir reduces

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug.18

As many as 41,499 tons of cargo were transported through the Turkish Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport in Izmir Province from January through July 2020, which is 43 percent less compared to the same period of 2019, Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

During the reporting period, 12,128 tons of cargo were handled by domestic flights, having shown a 31 percent drop year-on-year.

Meanwhile, 12,371 tons of cargo were transported through the mentioned airport by international flights, which is 59 percent less compared to the first 7 months of last year, the ministry said.

According to the ministry, the Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport served over 2.9 million passengers in the first half of this year, which is 58 percent less compared to the first half of 2019.

During the reporting period, 2.4 million passengers were served on domestic flights, which is 54 percent less compared to the same period of last year.

Furthermore, 506,009 passengers were served on international flights in the reporting period, a decrease of 70 percent over the year.

The ministry noted that 23,753 flights were carried out at the mentioned airport, an annualized slump of 50 percent.

In the first seven months of this year, 18,959 flights were carried out on domestic flights, which is 47 percent less compared to the same period of 2019.

International flights at the airport in Trabzon province slumped by 61 percent, amounting to 4,794 flights.

At the same time, air traffic in Turkey decreased by 50.9 percent and amounted to 431,049 flights.

From January through July 2020, over 42.6 million passengers were served at all Turkish airports.

In the reporting period, more than 1.2 million tons of cargo were transported through all airports of the country.
