Turkey releases 2M2021 data on cargo, passenger traffic at new Istanbul Airport

The new airport in Istanbul served over 3.3 million passengers from January through February 2021, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend on Mar.9.

According to the ministry, in the reporting period, 882,160 passengers were served on domestic flights, and over 2.4 million passengers on international flights.

Meanwhile, 28,965 flights were carried out at the new Istanbul Airport, including 7,574 - on domestic lines, 21,391 - on international lines.

"From January through February 2021, the volume of cargo transportation at the new Istanbul Airport amounted to 153,791 tons, of which 12,296 accounted for domestic, and 141,495 for international flights," the ministry said.

On October 29, 2018, the opening ceremony of the new airport was held in Istanbul, in which the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Jahit Turhan took part.

Istanbul's third airport is located in the northern part of the city.
