Turkey releases data on cargo, passenger traffic via new Istanbul Airport

The new airport in Istanbul served 5.5 million passengers from January through March 2021, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend on April 7.

According to the ministry, in the reporting period, 444,140 passengers were served on domestic flights while 4.09 million passengers on international flights.

Meanwhile, 46,427 flights were carried out at the new Istanbul Airport, including 12,315 - on domestic lines, 34,112 - on international lines.

"From January through March 2021, the volume of cargo transportation through the new Istanbul Airport reached 248,480 tons, of which 20,244 accounted for domestic flights while 228,236 for international flights," the ministry said.

The opening ceremony of the new airport was held in Istanbul on October 29, 2018, in which President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan took part.

Istanbul's third airport is located in the northern part of the city.
