Turkey, Azerbaijan to join efforts to develop seaports

Turkey looks forward to cooperating with Azerbaijan in the development of seaports, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.

According to the ministry, within the framework of this cooperation, the issue of holding negotiations between the management of the Turkish port of Mersin and the leadership of the Baku International Sea Trade Port (Baku port) is being considered.

The volume of cargo transshipment via Turkish ports from January through February 2021 exceeded 58.3 million tons.

According to the ministry, in the reporting period, the volume of cargo transshipment by ships flying the Turkish flag amounted to over 4.78 million tons.

From January through February of this year, more than 53.5 million tons of cargo have been handled by ships flying the flags of other countries, added the ministry.

Meanwhile, 11.8 million tons of cargo were transited through the ports of Turkey.

In February 2021, 29.6 million tons of cargo were handled through the ports, including 2.2 million tons by ships flying the Turkish flag, and more than 26.9 million tons by ships flying the flags of other countries.

Besides, more than 5.8 million tons of cargo were transported in transit through the ports of Turkey in the reporting month, added the ministry.
