Turkey discloses freight traffic from US via local ports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 30. Turkish ports handled 9.89 million tons of cargo from the US from January through February 2022, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend.

Ships under the Turkish flag delivered 309,268 tons of freight from the US to domestic ports, and ships flying the flags of other countries – 9.89 million tons.

During this period, US-flagged vessels transported 1,280 tons of cargo to Turkish ports. In the first quarter of 2022, Turkish ports handled 25,807 tons of transit cargo from the US.

Turkey's ports handled 24.18 million tons of cargo in March 2022.

Ships under the Turkish flag delivered 2.28 million tons of freight through domestic ports whilst ships flying the flags of other countries – 31.89 million tons.

In addition, Turkish ports transshipped 6.67 million tons of transit cargo in March 2022.

According to the ministry, Turkish ports handled 98.6 million tons of cargo from January through March 2022. In the reporting period, cargo transportation by ships flying the Turkish flag amounted to 6.9 million tons, while freight traffic by ships under the flags of other countries reached 91.68 million tons.

From January through March 2022, Turkish ports delivered 20.57 million tons of transit cargo.

Totally, Turkey transported 386.39 million tons of cargo in 2021 via its ports.

During the reporting period, freight transportation by ships under the flag of Turkey via domestic ports amounted to 29.9 million tons, whereas the cargo traffic by other countries' vessels reached 356.39 million tons.

Furthermore, Turkish ports transshipped 78 million tons of transit cargo in 2021.
