Turkish prime minister leaves for Syria

( Cihan ) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a pres conference at Ankara's Eseboga airport prior to his trip to Syria. Erdogan is to attend the opening of the Olympic Stadium in Aleppo and watch the friendship football match between Turkish Fenerbahce and Syrian Al Ittihad.

Erdogan said that the historic and cultural bonds between the countries were strong and that Syria was an important neighbor to Turkey. Erdogan stressed that the direct contacts with Syria and the sportive activities between the countries were on the rise and expressed his support for the events.

Regarding the diplomatic aspect of his visit to Syria, the prime minister said he would have the opportunity to have a meeting with Syrian President Basher Assad and discuss the bilateral and regional relations.

Erdogan also said he would meet with Syrian Prime Minister to discuss the energy and security relations of last few years.
