( Cihan ) - Shortly after he filed his application for the presidential candidature to Turkish Grand National Assembly, Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul held a press conference.
Gul said that he would have meetings and consultation with all the parties from the opposition as well.
Presidency, said Gul, was based on the constitutional principles of democracy, secularism and social law and said that no one should doubt that he would take action in the framework of these principles in case the parliament decides to hand him the mandate.
Gul regarded his wife's headscarf as a "personal choice" and said that it should be respected.
The amendments in the constitution are clear, said Gul and added that Turkey was a democratic, secular and social state governed by the rule of law.
