Turkish governor reiterates ban on Labor Day celebrations

( Cihan ) - Istanbul Governor's Office announced that the celebrations for the Labor Day might not be held at the Taksim Square although some organizations announced that the gatherings would be held there.

Istanbul Governor Muammer Guler said that there was not a written request for the celebrations to be held on Taksim Square and that it was not possible to use the square fro such purposes.

The governor also announced that the celebrations were allowed to be held only on the previously determined locations and that the main reason for the decision were past events whensome shops and public or private work places were demolished during the celebrations.

As precautions for any disturbing events some three thousand policemen will be deployed in Istanbul. The majority of the forces will be deployed at Taksim Square.
