Turkish forces take over command of MNTF- South Kosovo

( Cihan ) - Turkish forces took over the command of the Multinational Task Forces- South in the NATO's KFOR mission in Kosovo.

Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Ceku, KFOR Commander Gen. Roland Kather and numerous visitors attended the Transfer of Authority Ceremony that was held Tuesday.

The ceremony started with national anthems of the forces that are serving in the region and Commander of the Turkish forces Gen. Ugur Tarcin took over the command from his German counterpart.

Turkish Forces Commander Gen. Ugur Tarcin held a speech and said that the Turkish forces will not only work to provide safety but also the peace and prosperity of the people in the region.

Turkish forces will serve in Kosovo's Prizren province where the population is mostly of Turkish origin.

Turkey will will hand the command over to Austria in 2008.
