Turkish Prime Minister visits General Staff for anti-terror briefing

( Cihan ) - Turkish Prime Minister paid a visit to General Staff Headquarters on Thursday in the capital city of Ankara to be briefed on the ongoing anti-terror operations, especially near the border with Iraq.

Erdogan arrived at the headquarters at 11 a.m. and met Chief of Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit. Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul is also present at the meeting.

Accompanied by Gul, Erdogan will be briefed about counterterrorism and ongoing military operations against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in southeastern and eastern parts of the country.

Border security and latest developments regarding northern Iraq, where PKK terrorists are based, are also among the issues that are expected to be included in the briefing.

The meting came Wednesday's National Security Council meeting, which underlined Turkey's firmness in the fight against terrorism.

Last week, Gen. Buyukanit attended an emergency meeting on national security held at the Prime Ministry following recent PKK attacks on Turkish military.
