Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 5
Trend:
Holding of extraordinary presidential elections is an issue that relates to the authority of the President of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the parliamentary committee on public associations and religious organizations, Deputy Executive Secretary of the party Siyavush Novruzov told Trend on Feb.5.
He reminded that at a Referendum on amendments to the Constitution of Azerbaijan held on Sept.26, 2016, the president was given the right to announce the conduct of extraordinary presidential elections and the people unanimously voted for this.
"This issue is also reflected in the Electoral Code. From this point of view, holding extraordinary presidential elections is an issue related to the authority of the head of state. The president makes such a decision when he considers it necessary. And now the President believes that this year's presidential elections should be held not in October, but on April 11, and he signed a relevant order,” he said.
Novruzov stressed that the New Azerbaijan Party usually begins preparation for the elections a year earlier and has sufficient experience.
"The New Azerbaijan Party is completely ready for the elections and can win by nominating its candidate," he said.
He emphasized that the laws create favorable conditions for holding free, fair, democratic and transparent elections in Azerbaijan, further adding that everyone can nominate a candidate.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed an order Feb. 5 announcing early presidential election for April 11.
