BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 29. President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of the Arab Republic of Egypt met with Claudio Descalzi, Chief Executive Officer of Eni, to review the company’s ongoing operations in Egypt and explore potential areas for collaboration, Trend reports.
The meeting was attended by Egyptian Oil Minister Karim Badawi and Eni's Global Natural Resources Chief Operating Officer Guido Brusco.
The discussions focused on Eni's initiatives aimed at enhancing natural gas production through both onshore and offshore projects. The leaders emphasized Egypt's pivotal role as a gas hub in the eastern Mediterranean, highlighting the country’s robust gas processing and LNG export infrastructure.
Descalzi also addressed the energy transition, reiterating Eni's commitment to accelerating decarbonization efforts. He outlined plans to reduce methane emissions, enhance energy efficiency, and expand renewable energy initiatives.
The meeting also commemorated the 70th anniversary of Eni's operations in Egypt, marking its first international engagement outside Italy, which began in 1954.
As Egypt's leading hydrocarbon producer, Eni operates through its subsidiary IEOC and reported an equity production of approximately 318,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2023.
