BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 29. Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI and French President Emmanuel Macron, the Moroccan government and TE H2 have signed a Preliminary Contract for Land Reservation for the ambitious ‘Chbika’ project, Trend reports.

TE H2, a joint venture between TotalEnergies and EREN Group, along with Danish partners Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and A.P. Møller Capital, will initiate pre-FEED studies for the project located along the Atlantic coast in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region.

The ‘Chbika’ project aims to develop 1 GW of solar and wind capacity to produce green hydrogen, generating 200,000 tons of green ammonia annually for the European market. This initiative marks the first phase in establishing a world-scale green hydrogen production hub.

TotalEnergies' CEO, Patrick Pouyanné, expressed gratitude to Moroccan authorities for their trust, emphasizing Morocco’s potential as a key partner for Europe in achieving green energy goals. David Corchia, CEO of TE H2, highlighted the project’s significance for Morocco's energy transition and job creation.

CIP’s Philip Christiani noted Morocco's essential role in the global energy transition, while A.P. Møller Capital's CEO, Kim Fejfer, emphasized the importance of developing competitive transport infrastructure for green hydrogen value chains.

The agreement underscores Morocco’s renewable energy potential and its commitment to economic development through innovative energy projects.
