The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly will create and send a group of observers to monitor the process of preparing and holding the presidential election in Azerbaijan, to be held on April 11, 2018, said a message published on the website of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Feb. 13.
"Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Ogtay Asadov sent an invitation to Valentina Matvienko, chairwoman of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Council, speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia, for the group of observers from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly,” the message said.
In his letter, Asadov emphasized that the Republic of Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the further development and intensification of all-round ties with the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly," the message said.
The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly will send a group of observers to Azerbaijan, consisting of the parliamentarians of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly member-states, as well as the representatives of the Secretariat of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly and experts of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Member-States.
At the stage of long-term monitoring, the experts of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Member-States and the representatives of the Baku branch of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens will analyze the compliance of Azerbaijan's electoral legislation with international election standards.
Moreover, they will collect and assess information characterizing the electoral processes and activity of legislative, executive and judicial structures during the presidential election in Azerbaijan.
