Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran, Georgia FMs sign joint declaration in Baku (PHOTO) (UPDATE 2)

A joint declaration was signed at the first quadrilateral meeting of foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Iran and Georgia in Baku March 15.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze took part in the meeting.

"The declaration will expand cooperation of the countries in several areas, including infrastructure, transport, agriculture," FM Mammadyarov said at a press conference following the meeting.

“We are working on new projects,” he said. “We hope to unite efforts, create and consolidate the format of cooperation that will connect the major regions of the world in a joint fruitful cooperation."

"With our colleagues, we discussed the possibility of developing new transport routes that could potentially facilitate the transportation of goods in different directions," he said. “Among the projects to be implemented soon I can mention the Rasht-Astara railway. Together with the Iranian colleagues, we have practically completed the work on an agreement on this issue.”

The Azerbaijani foreign minister added that the forthcoming projects of quadrilateral cooperation will help develop the work of many organizations, including customs and economic institutions.

Mammadyarov said the next meeting in quadrilateral format will be held in Georgia.
