Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 26
By Fikret Dolukhanov – Trend:
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s stance is clearly sounded in the Russian media field and in the international media space, Russian journalist, military expert Igor Korotchenko told Trend.
Korotchenko, who is also editor-in-chief of the National Defense Magazine, made the remarks on the sidelines of the session titled “Disinformation Policy - Threat to Stability in the Modern World” at the 6th Baku International Humanitarian Forum on Oct. 26.
However, he stressed that the position of the country's leader cannot fill the entire information spectrum, as it covers the most important, key problems of the country.
“The structures that deal with information and media issues should take on this role,” Korotchenko added.
He particularly stressed that Azerbaijan must pay more attention to the fight against fakes and false information that denigrates Azerbaijan and more actively convey its point of view to the Russian public.
“In this regard, communication with Russian political analysts and media experts is required,” Korotchenko said.
"Today, information operations are an element of military building and military activity of all advanced, militarily developed countries,” he added. “It is absolutely normal if Azerbaijan pays more attention to this area, because information is a very powerful weapon, even stronger than military equipment."
Korotchenko stressed that information is the weapon that can be used when there is no real, big war.
“Further development of Azerbaijan’s capabilities in protecting its information space is required,” he said.
