Solana says determined to open new ties with Iran

European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana said here Monday evening that the EU is determined to open a new relationship with Iran based on confidence and faith.

Solana was talking to domestic and foreign reporters upon his arrival at Mehrabad International Airport here Monday night, reports Trend.

The EU has new proposals for Iran which would pave the way for resumption of negotiations, he said.

He further said he would rise new ideas with countries which he he will be representing in discussions with Iran in order to strengthen ties based on mutual respect and confidence.

He expressed his delight over the opportunity that was his to once again meet with Iranian officials.

Ambassadors of Russia, Germany and Britain and the French charge d'affaires in Tehran were on hand at the airport to welcome Solana.

The EU foreign policy chief is expected to meet with Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani and Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki on Tuesday.
