(Zaman) - Turkish Foreign Trade Minister Kursad Tuzmen and a delegation of100 businessmen are heading to the U.S to enhance the economic ties between the two countries. Before departing Turkey, Tuzmen spoke to journalists and outlined the details of their target, reports Trend.
Tuzmen explained that they hoped that with this visit they could target an increase in the trade volume between the U.S. and Turkey from $5 billion to $15 billion over the next three years.
Tuzmen said the U.S. annually imports goods worth $1.6 trillion, and stressed the importance of developing economic relations with the U.S. and aims at increasing Turkeys export to the U.S. by at least 50 percent.
The minister also said, Turkeys stable political and economic atmosphere, as well as the importance of its economy in the region, would be stressed during their contacts in the U.S.
Tuzmen, informing of planned meetings with representatives from the Wall Street Journal and Forbes, added: We have developed our American strategy to mend the economic relations of the two countries. Now we are conducting some studies at state levels in the U.S. in order to increase our exports.
According to Tuzmen, the most favored sectors in trade between Turkey and the U.S are: jewelry, marble, ceramics, iron, steel, and sub branches of the automotive sector.
