Iran-Malaysia Businessmen Council was inaugurated and officially started activity in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.
Iran's Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Mines (ICCIM) Chairman Mohammad Nahavandian and the country''s ambassador to Malaysia Mehdi Khandaq Abadi attended the inaugural ceremony.
Khandaq Abadi put the value of Iran-Malaysia trade in 2008 at some $5 million ringgit (about $1.43b), showing a 45 percent growth over the figure for 2007, according to IRNA.
He expressed hope that the council would give a boost to the bilateral trade and strengthen mutual relations.
The deputy chairman of Malaysian Chamber of Commerce and Industry referred to the lack of adequate and appropriate information regarding the two sides'' capabilities and capacities as the main factor hindering the promotion of trade and economic relations.
He said over 50,000 Iranian firms are currently active in Malaysia, so the council can provide traders of the two states with reliable and updated information about business opportunities.
ICCIM chairman participated in the 6th World Chambers Congress in Kuala Lumpur, June 3rd to 5th, proposing the world's developing and industrial nations should ease global trade regulations as a move to tackle the economic crisis.
