The U.N.'s top human rights official says the arrest of peaceful protesters in Iran raises "troubling questions."
U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay says Iranian authorities should ensure due process and fair trials for those detained, AP reported.
She says failure could fan "feelings of injustice."
Pillay also says reported attacks by government-linked militia members against opposition protesters could "provoke a serious deterioration in the security situation" in Iran.
She urged Tehran on Friday to ensure that the right to free speech and freedom of assembly are respected.
Opposition groups have held rallies to protest the June 12 election results that gave hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a landslide victory.
