Guardian Council confirms the results of presidential election in Iran

The Guardian Council confirmed the validity of the June 12 presidential election on Monday evening, Tehran Times reported.

In a letter to the Interior Ministry, GC Secretary Ayatollah Ahmad Janati said the council confirmed the validity of the election after a recount of ten percent of the votes across the country.

The GC began the partial recount in front of national TV cameras at 1:00 p.m. local time on Monday.

The ballot boxes were chosen at random.

The decision was made to hold the recount in order to clear up ambiguities over the election results, which had been disputed by defeated presidential candidates Mir-Hossein Mousavi and Mahdi Karroubi.
