Iranian interior minister confers with Afghan vice-president

Afghan First-Vice President Marshall Mohammad Ghasim Fahim on Tuesday held talks with visiting Iranian Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar, IRNA reported.

The Afghan first-vice president described Tehran-Kabul ties as historic and deep-rooted.

Fahim called for expansion of Iran and Afghanistan cooperation and said that Tehran-Kabul cooperation have impacts on the destiny of the region and the entire world.

He described Kabul-Tehran security cooperation as effective, adding that Iran has never left the Afghan nation alone, a reference to Iran's support to the Afghan reconstruction drive and helping the nation refurbish infrastructures.

Mohammad Najjar said that Iran and Afghanistan have religious, historical, language and cultural commonalities, calling for enhanced cooperation to combat drug-trafficking.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Najjar told the Afghan interior minister that the Iranian government and nation stand by Afghan people and spares no efforts to help restore peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The two interior ministers discussed ways to upgrade political, economic and cultural ties, counter-terrorism efforts, and combat against drug trafficking and organized crimes.

Iranian interior minister heading a high ranking officials arrived in Kabul on Tuesday evening.

Mohammad Najjar is scheduled negotiate with several Afghan top officials during his two-day stay in Afghanistan.
