The elimination of energy subsidies has stopped Iran's eight percent annual growth in electricity use, the Government Information Center website dolat.ir reported.

More than 70 percent of Iranians now use power within the consumption pattern set by the government, Majid Namjoo, Iran's energy minister, said.

Besides ceasing the annual eight percent increase in electricity use, there has been a two percent drop in power consumption. Iran saved 10 percent in electricity use, Mr. Namjoo said.

Water use has dropped five percent because of the targeted subsidies.

The Iranian government pays each citizen $45 a month as a compensation for eliminated commodities and energy subsidies.
