Russia is to send Iran Siberian tigers after visiting the area they are to live in, the Iranian Labour News Agency (ILNA) reports.
Mohammad-Javad Mohammadizadeh, head of Iran's Environmental Protection Organisation has asked his Russian counterparts to visit the Miankaleh Wildlife Sanctuary on the Caspian Sea.
The area chosen for the tigers to live in has to be approved by Russian experts, said Mr. Mohammadizadeh. It is hoped the tigers can be sent to Iran during the winter so conditions are similar to where they live now and the stress of being moved to a new location and a different climate is reduced, said the environmental agency chief.
