Iran's new wells are adding 4000 barrels of oil to its daily production at the joint Salman field.
Discovered in 1965, Salman is in the Persian Gulf and shared by Qatar and Iran. Getting the field up to full production is a priority for Iran's oil industry and has been put on a fast track, Mehr news agency reports.
Drilling and repair of six Salman wells has added 8400 barrels of oil to Iran's production.
To finish developing the field 's oil operations, the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) will have to drill 23 wells, water and oil injection wells, build and install a gas transport platform and a production platform and repair other platforms.
To produce 500 million cubic meters of gas from Salman, Iran will have to drill nine wells, lay 220 kilometres of pipeline to transport the gas and build a sea platform, among other tasks. Work on laying the 32 inch pipeline, the biggest for transporting gas in the Middle East, is almost finished.
So far, $1.3 billion (USD) has been invested in developing the Salman field, with 70 per cent of the funding coming from domestic contractors.
