Uzbek President Islam Karimov praised the dynamic nature of Uzbek-US cooperation based on pragmatism and mutual respect, Uzbek national news agency (UzA) said.
He made the remarks Dec.2 receiving Nisha Desai Biswal, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, who arrived in Tashkent to attend the fifth round of bilateral political consultations.
It was stressed at the meeting that regular dialogue at various levels allows the two sides to better understand each other, find constructive solutions and define specific spheres of further intensification of the interaction both in the interstate format and among research and education institutions, culture and art figures, civil society representatives, the news agency said.
Particular attention during the meeting was paid to international issues, primarily the Afghan quandary, which exerts a substantial influence on the state of security in the Central Asia region and beyond it, said the agency. In this regard, the Assistant Secretary of State said that the United States highly appreciates the Uzbek leader's efforts in the issues of settlement of the Afghan crisis and Uzbekistan's help in restoring the economy of this country.
On behalf of the leadership of her country, the US diplomat confirmed the US commitment to the steadfast advancement of multifaceted and long-term cooperation with Uzbekistan.
The key constituents of the Uzbek-US relations are trade-economic and investment spheres, and joint work on promising projects in the high-tech sectors of the economy is in progress together with major US companies, the agency said.
The American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce (AUCC), which held a regular meeting in Tashkent November 2014 with the participation of leading business representatives of Uzbekistan and the United States, plays an important role in the extension of mutually advantageous contacts among business circles of the two countries, the news agency said.
