BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 8. The State Flag Museum was originally opened by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva on November 9, 2010. Since its opening, the museum has showcased the three-colored flag of Azerbaijan, as well as flags of historical khanates and states that existed on Azerbaijani territory at various times in history, providing visitors with in-depth historical context, the official representative of the Baku Boulevard Administration Afsana Mehdiyeva told the media, Trend reports.
Mehdiyeva noted that the museum features 400 exhibits reflecting Azerbaijan’s ancient and rich history of statehood.
“Visitors to the museum are provided with in-depth information about each historical artifact on display. In 2017, as part of the reconstruction and restoration of State Flag Square, the State Flag Museum was temporarily closed for extensive repairs. During the years of renovation, the museum's staff focused on preserving, conserving, and enhancing the collection, resulting in the number of exhibits growing to 431.
The Flag Museum, set to reopen with a fresh design and updated layout following its renovation, now features the "Victory Gallery" exhibition, which honors the 44-day Patriotic War. This gallery showcases powerful photographs from the military parade marking the third anniversary of the victory along with images of the national flag being raised in the territories liberated from occupation under the leadership of the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
The museum consists of six exhibition halls.
Exhibition Hall A focuses on ancient and medieval Azerbaijan, displaying historical flags, flagpoles, symbols of power, coins, weapons, and 19th-century coats of arms of Azerbaijani cities.
Exhibition Hall B covers the era of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the Azerbaijan SSR. It exhibits the state flag that was displayed in the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic's parliament on December 7, 1918, along with photographs, banknotes, postage stamps, and flags and coats of arms from various periods of the Azerbaijan SSR's constitution.
Exhibition Hall C highlights the period of independence, showcasing commemorative medals and postage stamps dedicated to National Leader Heydar Aliyev, the Standard of the President of Azerbaijan, orders and medals of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Constitution of the independent Republic of Azerbaijan. This hall also features a stand displaying significant historical documents, including the "Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 17, 2007, on the establishment of the National Flag Square in the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Baku", "Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated November 17, 2009 on the establishment of the National Flag Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan", "Resolution of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic dated November 17, 1990, chaired by Heydar Aliyev".
Exhibition Hall D is dedicated to the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, showcasing flags, medals, emblems, and chevrons of the Azerbaijani military.
Sectors E and F display the ceremonial uniforms worn by the servicemen of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
In addition, the museum's monitors feature a series of compelling videos that explore the rich history of Azerbaijan, from its ancient and medieval periods to the era of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the Azerbaijan SSR. These videos highlight the pivotal contributions of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to Azerbaijan's statehood, the development of its military forces, and the historic victory in the Patriotic War, achieved under the Supreme Command of President Ilham Aliyev,” she added.
