In 2014 Turkey partners up with U.S. company to manufacture military helicopters

In the first half of 2014, Turkey will start production of military helicopters jointly with the American company, Sikorsky, Turkish Sabah newspaper reported on Dec.13.

According to the newspaper, military helicopters are to be produced in Ankara.
The agreement worth $3.5 billion envisages production of 109 helicopters.

Negotiations between the American company Sikorsky and the Ministry of Defence and Industry of Turkey started in 2010.

The Turkish defence industry has recently focused on developing and manufacturing its own products, as well as acquiring military equipment. Turkey managed to achieve a self-sufficiency level of 54 per cent in the defence industry.
