BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 14. The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) has signed a joint action plan on environment and sustainable development at the ministerial level, Trend reports via Azerbaijan's Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.

Meanwhile, it was noted that the first meeting of environment and ecology ministers of the OTS member states within COP29 ended with the signing of the “Ministerial Declaration.”

In continuation of the “Karabakh Declaration” signed at the Summit of the Heads of State of the OTS in Shusha in July 2024, the OTS member countries confirmed at the ministerial level their intention to strengthen cooperation in the direction of solving joint environmental problems and ensuring sustainable development.

The meeting exchanged views on achieving solutions to joint environmental challenges and emphasized the importance of important steps contributing to sustainable development and the importance of the joint approach to solving regional and international environmental problems.

At the same time, the OTS member countries identified a joint position and prospects for the creation of a joint action plan.

The parties expressed their intention to continue active cooperation for the sake of a sustainable and stable future.

The signing in Baku of the “Ministerial Declaration” on the joint activities of the OTS in addressing the planetary challenges and initiatives announced at COP29 in the field of environment and sustainable development further strengthens the leadership of COP29 host Azerbaijan at the international and regional levels.

The meeting held within COP29 was attended by the Ministers of Ecology and Natural Resources of the OTS member countries - Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Türkiye, as well as the Secretary General of the OTS,” the information notes.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) opened on November 11. COP29, which is being held at the Baku Olympic Stadium, will continue until November 22. It is the largest event organized by Azerbaijan to date, and the first time in the region that it is being held in Azerbaijan.

The key expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.

A total of 14 initiatives have been put forward by the COP29 Chairmanship.
