BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 14. The Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and countries from Central and Western Asia have signed a declaration on climate change, glaciers, and cross-border cooperation in Baku, Azerbaijan, Trend reports.
The document was signed during a panel discussion titled "Glacial Melting in Central and West Asia through Glaciers to Farms (G2F): Climate Change and Regional Cooperation and Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation," held within COP29.
Ministers of ecology and natural resources from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, along with the President of the ADB and the Finance Minister of Pakistan, participated in the event.
In his remarks, ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa highlighted the launch of the Glaciers to Farms (G2F) program, which aims to preserve glaciers, manage water resources, and protect vulnerable communities, mobilizing $3.5 billion over seven years.
The program is designed to enhance resilience in Central and Western Asia by supporting agriculture and water resources. As part of the G2F initiative, a risk assessment study will be conducted to evaluate the impact of glacier melt on the region's water resources.
