BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 13. As part of COP29, a High-Level Session titled "The Power of Cooperation: Joint Efforts for Achieving Net Zero" was held, organized by the Ministry of Economy, the Export and Investment Promotion Agency - AZPROMO, and the World Economic Forum, Trend reports.
The session was moderated by Gim Huay Neo, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum.
According to the information, Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov shared his views on the principles of joint climate action, global policies in this area, and the private sector's contribution. It was noted that inclusive measures and sustainable development are essential to drive positive change. On the global level, a fair approach encompassing all nations is also an important consideration in addressing climate challenges.
Details were presented on Azerbaijan's goals and efforts in sustainable growth and the green economy. Targeted measures to advance technologies and innovative solutions were highlighted as key to achieving green energy goals, with an emphasis on the importance of international cooperation in this area.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, emphasized the need to adapt global trade policies to address climate change and support developing countries in this context.
Laziz Kudratov, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade, shared his views on the importance of international cooperation in combating global climate change, regional initiatives in this direction, and the significance of joint renewable energy projects.
Gim Huay Neo, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum, noted that the transition to net-zero carbon emissions presents significant opportunities for economic growth and job creation, highlighting the need for comprehensive and collaborative approaches to foster mutually beneficial international cooperation.
Rich Lesser, CEO of Boston Consulting Group and Co-Chair of the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders, stated that between 2019 and 2022, they achieved a 10% reduction in total emissions while increasing overall revenue by 18%. He stressed the importance of close collaboration with governments to enhance private sector involvement in climate action, noting that clear policies and robust partnership mechanisms are crucial for positive change.
Andrew Forrest, CEO of Fortescue, underscored the importance of clean energy sources in combating climate change, stating that achieving global climate goals is possible through increased investment in renewable energy and technological innovation.
Participants emphasized the need for collective action at the global level to address the climate crisis. Governments, companies, and civil society organizations are all called upon to take shared responsibility and join the fight against climate change with specific action plans.
