BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 14. A solid foundation has been laid for achieving the new collective quantitative goal, COP29 Lead Negotiator Yalchin Rafiyev said at a press conference within COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan today, Trend reports.
"Regarding the negotiating agenda, we are advancing the initial success achieved on Article 6.4, generating momentum throughout the entire negotiation framework at COP29. We are primarily concentrated on establishing a just and ambitious new collective numeric objective, which is our foremost priority in the negotiations," he explained.
Rafiyev called for the preparation of an initial draft of the document on the new collective quantitative goals as soon as possible.
"The parties welcome the decision to move to the draft text and describe it as a real foundation for discussion, the first time in three years of the technical process," he added.
To note, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will run until November 22, opened on November 11 at the Baku Olympic Stadium.
The main expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantitative Goal (NCQG) on climate finance. The COP29 chairmanship has launched 14 initiatives that include linkages between climate action and the Sustainable Development Goals, including green energy corridors, green energy storage, harmony for climate resilience, clean hydrogen, methane reduction in organic waste, action on green digital technologies, and other topics.
