ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 14. Ministers' Declaration on Ecology of the OTS (Organization of Turkic States) countries has been signed at COP29, Trend reports.
The first meeting of the environment and ecology ministers of the member states of the Organization of Turkic States took place within the framework of COP29. At the meeting, joint positions and action plans at the ministerial level on environmental protection and sustainable development were presented. The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Erlan Nysanbayev, represented Kazakhstan at the meeting.
"Our meeting marks an important step towards strengthening cooperation and uniting efforts in the fight against the environmental challenges facing the OTS region," stated minister Nysanbaev in his speech.
In continuation of the "Karabakh Declaration," signed at the OTS Heads of State Summit in Shusha in July 2024, the member nations of the OTS at the ministerial level reiterated their dedication to enhancing collaboration in addressing ecological issues and promoting sustainable development.
Additionally, the member states of the OTS outlined the prospects for creating a common position and an action plan.The parties expressed their intention to continue active cooperation for a sustainable and lasting future.
As the dust settled at the meeting's conclusion, Nysanbayev pointed out that the next gathering of the ministers from the OTS countries is on the horizon, set to take place in Kazakhstan come 2025.
To clarify, the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), formerly called the Turkic Council or the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States, is an intergovernmental organization composed of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Türkiye and Uzbekistan. Hungary, Turkmenistan and Northern Cyprus are observers.
On November 11, the 29th session of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP29) kicked off in the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku. The event will run until November 22. A total of 67,000 people have registered to participate in COP29.
