Egypt has detained 16 Palestinians, who are members of the Islamic Jihad movement, the Gaza-based movement said on Monday.
The detainees were arrested when returning home after completing medical treatment, who were "sent down to Egyptian prisons run by the state security," a statement by the radical group added, Xinhua reported.
The detention took place at Cairo airport where many Palestinians started to arrive from outside Egypt en route to the Gaza Strip, after Egypt opened Rafah border crossing for five days starting Saturday, according to the statement.
On May 6, Egypt freed six Islamic Jihad members after nearly two months of arrest. They were arrested also in Cairo airport after they landed from Syria.
Patients and some workers of international organizations can depart Gaza through Israel, but the majority of the 1.5 million people in the coastal enclave can only travel through Rafah crossing which Egypt has been keeping shut most of the time since Hamas seized control of Gaza in 2007.
