BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 17. As part of COP29 in Baku, Trend News Agency proudly presents COP for Hope, a special project offering an unparalleled platform to hear from world leaders and trailblazers in politics, economics, science, and ecology, all united by a shared commitment to addressing today’s pressing climate challenges.
Our guest today is Sergio Mujica Montes, Secretary General of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
"This is my first time in Baku! Oh, it's wonderful! I'm having a fantastic time; the city is beautiful, and the people here are very warm and welcoming. But more importantly, I believe you've done an excellent job organizing this large-scale event. I truly think we have the opportunity to make a real difference and contribute to the fight against climate change," he said.
Sergio Mujica Montes emphasized that the main message for policymakers, for those sitting in the negotiation rooms, is that they can use standards to implement their policies, regulations, and decisions.
"They should rely on us, count on us as an essential tool to help implement their decisions," said the ISO Secretary General.
He also praised the organization of the event.
"The organization is outstanding—the logistics and security are top-notch. For example, when you go through the security checkpoints, it's incredibly efficient. I’ve never seen anything like it before. Please accept my sincere congratulations. Everything has been done so well. Thank you so much—it's truly a pleasure to participate in COP29 in Baku," he added.
