BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 17. On November 16, a roundtable discussion on the "Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)" was held at the State Tax Service under the Ministry of Economy, Trend reports.

The event brought together international experts, climate finance specialists, government representatives, private sector stakeholders, and auditors.

Opening the event, Deputy Head of the State Tax Service Samira Musaeva explained that the goal of the meeting was to gain a deeper understanding of the CBAM requirements—a new climate policy tool introduced by the European Union and currently being phased in. The discussion focused on identifying potential challenges and exploring solutions for effective preparation. Musaeva highlighted the importance of striking a balance between addressing global climate change and ensuring economic growth.

The roundtable, moderated by Eli Sandler, a specialist from Harvard University, included presentations by Kasia Klatczynska Lewis, partner at Ernst & Young, Nadia Picard, partner at PwC, and other experts.

Participants shared insights on the potential impact of CBAM on businesses at both global and national levels, as well as the European Union’s legislative framework for the mechanism. They also discussed the readiness of producers and exporters to adapt to these changes. It was noted that while the mechanism could lead to positive progress in combating climate change, its success will depend on fair global approaches, sustainable development, and environmental justice.

Experts addressed questions and provided clarifications during the event.
