BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 16. The Organizing Committee has done a fantastic job in preparation for COP29, the first deputy director general of TASS Mikhail Gusman told Trend on the sidelines of the COP29 conference in Baku.

“When I learned that Azerbaijan was unanimously chosen to host the next COP29 conference, on the one hand, of course, I was extremely happy, and on the other hand, I realized what a huge work my friends and colleagues in Azerbaijan, from the most different ministries and departments, would have to do to prepare such a conference.

Azerbaijan has held many large format events, but I have never had to organize such a huge event. I take my hat off to the organizing committee and to the heads of different departments of this committee for such a fantastic preparation," he said.

Mikhail Gusman noted that the choice of Baku Olympic Stadium as the center of the conference was a very wise decision.

“The stadium has naturally been transformed and has become an ideal, convenient place for all events. Firstly, it is all very compact and very convenient. Secondly, it has freed the city from overload. Ideal conditions. I talked to dozens of colleagues—journalists, officials, and even managers. And everyone is just delighted. This, of course, shows that everything has been thought out to the last detail. I know that all this was held under the literal daily control of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev,” the first deputy director general emphasized.

According to him, the topic being discussed here is the most important for all of humanity.

“I know directly those people who have been engaged in round-the-clock preparation of COP29. I must say that they put all their soul and all their intellect into ensuring the success of the event. The results did not slow down. I think that the topic that is being discussed here is the most important one for all mankind, which will play, of course, a big role in the world consolidating its efforts in the fight against dramatic climate change, in the fight against such dramatic warming," he noted.

He emphasized that the topic of the Caspian Sea shallowing should be of concern to everyone.

“One of the important topics, which is very painful for me as I grew up in Baku, near the Caspian Sea - the shoaling of the Caspian Sea. This is for me a heartache, a heartfelt experience.

It is not by chance that during the state visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Azerbaijan, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, especially drew his attention to this topic. Of course, the problems being discussed cannot be solved in a month or even a year, but the main thing is that a consolidated effort will be made in the struggle for world solidarity, for a green world, as proclaimed by President Ilham Aliyev. I think that in this respect we can already say that the conference was a huge success," Gusman stated.

The First Deputy Director General of TASS emphasized that Russia and Azerbaijan can cooperate in all directions.

“I do not know those topics in which the positions of Russia and Azerbaijan would diverge or there would be no opportunity to consolidate efforts. Everything related to world problems—climatic, environmental—concerns Azerbaijan and Russia equally,” Mikhail Gusman concluded.
