BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. Efforts were taken in the prosecutor's office buildings of Azerbaijan to reduce the carbon footprint and promote environmentally friendly initiatives, the country's Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev said at a high-level session themed "Mobilizing Law Enforcement for Enhanced Climate Action" held in the COP29 Blue Zone today, Trend reports.

"The newly opened prosecutor's office buildings are equipped with integrated solar panels and electric vehicles, which demonstrate our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting environmentally friendly initiatives.

The prosecutor's office is investigating environmental crimes committed in Azerbaijani territories during their almost 30-year occupation. Work continues on the legal assessment of environmental violations and the initiation of reforestation campaigns," he noted.

Speaking about the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office's commitments to climate-related activities, Aliyev emphasized that by increasing the fleet of electric vehicles to 30, they will significantly reduce their carbon footprint.

"Moreover, we'll continue to use solar and wind energy to power our administrative buildings," the official added.

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) opened on November 11. COP29, which is being held at the Baku Olympic Stadium, will continue until November 22. It is the largest event organized by Azerbaijan to date, and the first time in the region that it is being held in Azerbaijan.

The key expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate finance.

A total of 14 initiatives have been put forward by the COP29 Chairmanship.
