BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. Well-developed legal frameworks can play a significant role in advancing net zero targets and encouraging ambitious climate policies, said Atsuko Hirose, Acting Secretary General of the International Energy Charter (IEC), Trend reports.
Speaking at a Ministerial Dialogue on Advancing Renewable Energy Transition in Central Asia, Hirose highlighted the importance of legal reforms to foster international collaboration and progress in energy transition.
"The proposed amendments are aimed at reaffirming the commitments of the signatory states," she said. "I would like to note that all Central Asian countries, Azerbaijan, and other Caspian basin nations are participants in our treaty. By reaffirming their commitments, members express their readiness and political will, as mentioned earlier, to implement the 'green' energy transition and promote low-carbon technologies in energy trade and investment," she said.
Hirose also emphasized that these amendments would make the IEC's treaty the first to incorporate energy materials such as hydrogen, green ammonia, biomass, and biofuels.
