BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. Every country must double its efforts in the fight against climate change, said Jennifer Granholm, US Secretary of Energy, at the Ministerial Meeting on the COP29 Energy Initiatives, Trend reports.
Granholm emphasized that the United States continues its transition to clean energy despite uncertainties in federal climate policy.
"States, cities, and businesses are stepping up to fill the gaps left by a lack of clear federal strategy. Seven years ago, the US withdrew from the Paris Agreement, but states, cities, and companies have filled that void," she said.
The Secretary also noted that in 2024, the US plans to add over 60 megawatts of clean energy – a record-breaking amount.
"We’ve already invested $1.5 trillion in clean technologies, and for every federal dollar, six dollars of private investment follow," she added.
Granholm highlighted the global trend of increasing investments in clean energy, noting that the world is now doubling its investments in clean energy compared to fossil fuels.
"Combating the climate crisis requires joint efforts from all countries. The goal is to triple renewable energy production and achieve 1500 gigawatts of energy storage. I hope that the G20 in Rio will support this target," the official added.
